  4. Does my views, number of subscribers and ranking define how much I will earn on YouTube?

This post is for you.

In the video, Kelechi admits that it is quite risky sharing personal financial information online, however, it’s just a way to inspire her viewers. With her revelation, people who plan to evaluate their YouTube growth and earnings can use it as a template.

Kelechi’s YouTube earnings for 2020

Kelechi, who started 2020 with barely 10,000 subscribers, closed with about 110,000 subscribers, had a total of 57.2 million impressions and 4 million views.

Kelechi said:

“In 2020, I had a total of 57.2million impressions. What this means is YouTube pushed out my content to 57.2 million people. These people saw my content or came across my Tumblr. This is amazing. Do you know what you can do with 57.2 million potential clients?

“Out of these, I had a total of 4 million views for the year 2020. This is actually amazing. In terms of my audience, we gained a total of 93.7 thousand subscribers. That is, almost 94k subscribers.

“This should give you an idea of how I started off in the year 2020. I barely had 10,000 subscribers and within a year I was able to gain 94,000 subscribers.

Speaking about her earning in 2020, Kelechi said she gained a total of $20,000 and going by the exchange rate at the time, she made about N9m. This figure is quite impressive. Earning an average of N750,000 monthly in present-day Nigeria goes a long way, Kelechi admits.

Kelechi, however, pointed out that her sources of income don’t come from YouTube Vlogging alone. She has four other sources of income.

“In 2020, we had a total of 4 million views, 2,000 to 4,000 watch hours and we gained 94,000 subscribers. This is mind-blowing. For the whole of 2020, we made a total of $20,000 which isn’t bad,” Kelechi said.

Kelechi adds that this figure can run into millions monthly if you get advert placements, sponsorships and more.

YouTube earnings fluctuate

Kelechi explained that YouTube earnings fluctuate and vary depending on the number of views you get daily, your ranking on the platform, the nature of your content and the number of subscribers. This means YouTube earnings are not fixed.

She had barely 2,000 views at the onset and when her light broke forth, there were times where she had 30k, 35k, 70k and 100k views per day.

When she had slightly above 1k daily views, she made an average of $6 or $7 per day. When she got to the peak, she made about $400 per day.

In her words:

“You can also assume and work hard depending on how much you plan to earn. Looking at your analytics and understanding it, is key when it comes to growth in your subscribers, views and earnings.

“YouTube earnings are not fixed. There are some months where I made slightly above $2,000 dollars and there are months where I made barely a thousand and something dollars. It just fluctuates depending on what you give, how your audience perceives what you give.

“To be honest, I am super grateful. I feel this is the starting point for me. I’m not going to make it lower than this. It has to be ten times.

“In the early part of 2020, I was getting barely over a 1k to 2k views per day. Luckily for me, the YouTube gods picked up one of my content, it went viral and that was how we went from making 1–2k views to 30k, 38k, 70k, 100k views in a single day. On average, I get a minimum of 10k to 20k views in a single day.

“Looking at the revenue side, in January, when I was receiving barely 1k views per day, I was making an average of $6, $7 per day. When that particular video was picked by YouTube, I started making hundreds of dollars and got to the peak which was $400.

“Now, on average, I make between $50 — $70 dollars depending on the content I put out. However, I am not consistent and that is my average for not being consistent. I’m hoping that if I’m consistent, I could get like $150 per day.”
